Virtual console storefronts can be a great place to check out if you’re not sure what to play next. You might also come across a game you’ve been waiting to buy that’s on offer. When it comes to buying an entirely new game this way, other than the cover art and maybe a trailer, there’s not much you can do. It would be handy to know exactly what people are playing and what they think about it without having to scroll through Twitter or dig up reviews.

Nintendo has somehow added something to the eShop that might just help you out. You can now view the top 100 most played games in your region. The list tracks the total playtime of all games with 2,500 or more active players over the past two weeks. While it doesn’t tell you anything about the games you might be looking to buy, if it’s new and has made this list, it’s clearly good enough to keep people interested.

Disgaea 6 is at the top of Switch’s most played charts in the US and UK, so good to know for anyone about to pick up a copy. Pokemon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl are also up there in both regions, as is Football Manager 2022 Touch. Pretty impressive for Sega’s football sim to have so much game time in the US, although it’s a game that needs a lot of attention.

What’s surprising is that some of the Switch’s heaviest hitters are nowhere to be found. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate doesn’t make the top 100 in either region, nor does Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. And this despite the fact that the latter continues to lead sales more than four years after its launch. Maybe all the copies sold right now are wrapped up and sitting under the trees, ready for December 25th.

There’s no love for Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the UK either, but it’s pretty much making the cut in the US and was the 90th most-played game on Switch for the past couple of years. weeks. With all of that in mind, these lists might be more revealing and helpful than you might think when choosing your next Switch game. Maybe quit Smash Ultimate and grab Disgaea 6 instead, because everyone seems to be playing it a lot right now.
