Miyamoto thanks Japanese fans for voting Nintendo games in top 100
Yesterday we reported on the results of a TV Asahi poll of over 50,000 Japanese gamers to determine the top 100 favorite console video games of all time in Japan, and today Nintendo Creative Fellow Shigeru Miyamoto offers his thanks to the many people who voted for Nintendo games. He did this through the Official Nintendo Account for Japan, and Cheesemeister helpfully provided a translation. Miyamoto gave thanks and said that watching the program was “a chance to think back to all the scenes of game development over nearly 40 years. I will continue to create games to bring new experiences to everyone.
“This is Miyamoto. Thank you for voting for so many Nintendo titles in the ‘Video Game General Election’ which aired last night. It was a chance to rethink all the scenes of game development over nearly 40 years. I will continue to create games to bring new experiences to everyone. https://t.co/CnEoHyEZA8

Shigeru Miyamoto has good reason to offer his thanks because, including Pokemonmore … than 40 Nintendo games appeared in the top 100 favorite console games for Japan, which is an incredibly dominant number. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild took first place, Animal Crossing: New Horizons took #4, Super Smash Bros Ultimate is #7, and Super Mario Bros. 3 is #10, so it same took 40% of the top 10.
Of course, as some have noted, the rankings certainly suffer from some recency bias, as it is unlikely Splaton 2 will remain in the top 10 (or top 20?) even in a decade. But it’s a fun list to ponder all the same, even if it’s missing some amazing titles, like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Super Metroidand the original Super Mario Bros..
